Born and educated in England, Maurice received his Batchelors degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Aston in Birmingham in 1965. He went on to ea rn a Masters degree in Operational Research from the University of Birmingham in 1967.
From 1961 to 1970, he worked for Massey Ferguson in their tractor assembly plan t. He participated in the design and implementation of systems, mostly in the pr oduction management area, and conducted several related OR studies.
In 1970, he transferred to the head office of Massey Ferguson in Toronto. There, he worked on global financial planning and production management systems, both for MF and for the Perkins Engines Group (a wholly-owned subsidiary).
In 1980, he joined Dome Petroleum Limited, and moved to Calgary. He worked on bu dgeting and financial planning systems, and led a group of decision support staf f that implemented a number of optimization and other OR applications, both befo re and after the merger with Amoco Canada in 1988.
Since 1984, Maurice has been involved in entrepreneurial activities, including t he production of several software packages for financial planning which were sol d commercially across Canada. In 1993, he left Amoco to continue this work full time. Since them he has worked on several projects involving O.R. and similar ac tivities, mostly in the oil and gas and pipeline businesses.
Maurice is currently the principal of his own O.R. consulting company, Decision Insight Systems Inc., and President of the Calgary Section of the Canadian Opera tional Research Society.
